It is after the holidays and we all know it: this time when you sit in front of your laptop and stare into it. You can barely keep your eyes open and keeping focussed is really tough. It might happen in the morning. For me, it is always around 3pm after lunch. So, what can we do to avoid this efficiency slump? Here’s what I do to get back into power mode:

  1. Get some fresh air

Sounds easy, and it is. When I realize that I am having a slump, I take a brief break and step away from my laptop. One of the reasons for getting tired might be a lack of oxygen. Therefore, I go outside to get some fresh air and also “freshen” up my mind and thoughts.

  1. Go for a walk around the office

A short walk around the office can help improve your circulation. Try not to think about the immediate tasks when you take this break, engage in a conversation with a colleague. Set a timer for your walk – try to keep it to 2-5 minutes.

  1. Drink water

Avoid walking to the coffee machine all the time. We often think that caffeine will help keep us awake. It might, but often when we are tired we simply need more water. Make sure you regularly drink water. If you struggle drinking plain water, add some ingredients to make it more tasty – check out my post about detox drinks (they are really tasty, even if you do not plan a detox 😉 )
